5 Plant-Based Curries
Chicken curry; one of the classic Malaysian dishes filled with aromatic spices and creamy warmth. As the name of the dish suggests, traditionally this meal does not come served plant-based friendly.However, like most of the dishes, it isn't hard to create a plant-based version. A lot of the time, all it takes is replacing the chicken with a vegan protein alternative. Some curry bases include a paste or powder riddled with milk, crustaceans, fish or an animal-based broth. Below, I have accumulated a list of 5 curry powders and pastes that are plant-based, and easy to use!
1) Maesri Panang Curry Paste
For a creamy based curry, the Panang curry is a perfect solution. This Maesri curry paste can be found online or in most supermarkets.

Ingredients: Dried Red Chilies, Garlic, Shallot, Lemongrass, Sugar, Salt, Kaffir Lime, Galangal, Coriander Seed, Cumin, Cardamom, and Bay Leaves
2) Adabi Kari Ayam Dan Daging Powder
Don't be discouraged by the word ayam (chicken) in the title. Despite having chicken in the name, this curry powder doesn't include any animal products or derivatives.

Ingredients: Chili, Coriander, Fennel Seed, Cinnamon, Cloves, and Star Anise
3) Ayam's Malaysian Rendang Curry Paste
Once again, there's a deceiving title, but all ingredients within this paste classify as vegan-friendly. Rendang is a richer and thicker curry that's usually served with beef.

Ingredients: Water, Toasted Desiccated Coconut, Onions, Garlic, Palm Oil, Sugar, Salt, Corn Starch, Chili Powder, Ginger, Tamarind, Cumin, Cinnamon, Black Pepper, and Cloves
4) Tean's Gourmet Malaysian Style Tumisan Curry Paste
This curry paste offers the base for a more stir-fried and sautée style of a Malaysian curry. Usually, the protein of and vegetables of choice get sautéed first, before being added into a curry past mixture.
